Re-admission of Shakawe students starts in earnest

27 Aug 2014

Shakawe Senior Secondary School class of 2013 students has been advised to be responsible and shape their future by changing their attitudes and work towards positive results.

Officially launching the re-admission of the 474 Shakawe class of 2013 back into five schools, deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, Skills and Development, Mr Peter Choto said a positive attitude would result in positive results while a negative attitude would bring about negative results.

“Never give up to challenges because giving up is just an attitude. Therefore, hard work, perseverance, and spending sleepless nights are a pre-requisite to achieving desired results,” he explained.

The DPS said since this was the first experience for his ministry to re-admit students in public schools, it was important for them to use the opportunity and forget the past and look forward to the future.

He said the launch marked the end of the Shakawe class of 2013 and the beginning of new life at the five targeted senior secondary schools around the country.
Mr Choto explained that students should not think that the future was going to be driven by other people for them to benefit, but said that it was their responsibility to put in the necessary efforts.

“I observed during the introductions of the five targeted schools that Shakawe Senior Secondary School students showed dissenting voices, but the good name of a school is promoted by the good behavior of its students,” he said.

He said allocation of students to the five senior secondary schools was based on availability of resources since it has been realised that other schools do not have enough resources to accommodate them.

In addition, he said Shakawe was a great school and was comparable to other five recently built schools such as Nata, Good Hope, Mmadinare and Mogoditshane and appealed to those admitted to be calm as they can make a change in the community.

He also advised students to choose friends that they share similar ambitions with, something which can positively impact their life, instead of choosing those who are into alcohol and drugs.

BOCODOL regional manager, Gaewe Morapedi appealed to parents and teachers to allow the young generations to grow and achieve a lot in their lives so as to take part in the development of their nation as future leaders.

Speaking on behalf of the five schools, Gantsi Senior Secondary School head, Basidi Tsae assured students that both teachers and students at the five schools are waiting for them and urged them to stop wasting their time by talking about the past but instead focus on doing well.

Some of the re- admitted students, Uetuesapi Kapeke and Asalepele Mase who have been admitted at Maun and Gantsi senior secondary schools respectively applauded government for giving them another chance and promised to work hard at their new schools. Ends
