President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has applauded Member of Parliament for the Borolong area for a job well done.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting in Ditlharapeng, President Khama said Mr Kitso Mokaila had applied himself well to represent the wishes and aspirations of his constituents, adding he was vocal on issues pertaining to his area.

He added that Mokaila had also exerted himself as a cabinet minister in the last five years. “It is not easy to double as an MP and minister because most of the times you are engaged in Gaborone but I want to tell you that Mr Mokaila has managed to execute himself very well,” he said.

President Khama said Mr Mokaila’s leadership qualities particularly came to the fore in the recent past when he championed government efforts to attain self-sufficiency in national electricity supply.

He also applauded tribal leaders nationwide for their active efforts towards nation building. He said their contribution had made it possible for his government to bring the nation this far.

Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II of Barolong had earlier applauded President Khama for the creditable and progressive leadership he had exhibited since he took the baton from former president, Mr Festus Mogae in 2008.

“We feel honoured that soon after you had assumed office in 2008, you visited us in Pitsane and Ramatlabama and you are here again at the end of the term to bid us well. But, like many other times in the past, we pray that we have a free and fair election once again this year,” he said.

Ditlharapeng VDC chairperson, Ms Nomsa Medupe had also applauded President Khama for the ISPAAD programme. She said the programme had re-energised Batswana to produce food for themselves but decried that Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) prices for farm produce were still very low.

She said the prices negated government’s view to have Batswana sustain their lives through farming. Meanwhile, the Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi, who also attended the meeting revealed that 200 000 metric tonnes of yields were expected from the current ploughing season.

He explained that if Batswana could sustain their efforts, the nation would soon be able to sell surplus to other countries which in turn, will enable BAMB to improve prices. He nonetheless, revealed that his ministry was already looking for markets in other countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo. Ends
