CTO Maun donates to orphans
25 Aug 2014
There are 2 020 orphans in the Maun Sub-district jurisdiction and 1 391 needy students and as such any effort towards assisting them is worth commending, says North West District Council assistant district commissioner, Mr Mogomotsi Ramodisa.
Therefore, Mr Ramodisa commended Maun Central Transport Office (CTO) employees for making an impact on the lives of 10 orphans who were students at Shorobe Primary School.
Speaking during the donation of toiletries in Shorobe recently, he said their gesture was in line with one of the President Lt Gen. Sretse Khama Ian Khama’s 5Ds of dignity. He said it was government’s role to uplift the lives of the needy; therefore the CTO employees who helped from their pockets did a commendable thing.
He also said the donation would motivate the children to have a brighter future and also implored the residents and other organisations to partner in assisting the needy to donate bigger things. The chairperson of the CTO Maun wellness committee, Mr Orsbon Ratshee said they deemed it necessary to do something outside their line of duty.
He said CTO Maun officers contributed some money and their ministry also contributed after learning about the endeavour. Mr Ratshee said their office then liaised with the Social and Community Development (S&CD) to find the 10 beneficiaries adding that the spirit of giving was deeply rooted in the Batswana culture from way back.
In his remarks, Shorobe Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Baleseng Gwanga thanked the Ministry of Transport and Communications for continuous assistance and developments in their village such as availing the mini post office.
The 10 students were given school bags with toiletries. Ends
