Kgalagadi Brewery Limited, through Keone Mooka Mageu, have renewed their vows with Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) by sponsoring the national boxing championships to the amount of P175 000.
This follows the culmination of a three-year deal signed in 2011 when the company heaped P435 000 into the association for the administration of the same tournament.
The KBL and BoBA relationship started in 2000 when the company sponsored the tournament until 2009 when they parted ways and only renewed the relations in 2011.
Launching the sponsorship in Gaborone marketing manager soft drinks- KBL, Karabo Tlhabiwe said KBL was proud to be associated with a medal winning sport.
Tlhabiwe noted that boxing was one sport that has been at the forefront in raising the country’s flag.
The manager said boxing continues to bring medals at continental level and they were optimistic that the code would bring an Olympic medal in the near future.
Tlhabiwe said KBL has had a 14-year fruitful relationship with BoBA and they were grateful to be associated with the association.
He said KBL was committed to youth development and women in boxing hence their support to the tournament which attracts the two.
He urged the association to keep the tenacity and continue building sport in Botswana.
“Let’s celebrate this legacy we have built and grow together as we take Botswana sport to greater heights.” BoBA president, Michael Moroka said through the tournament boxing has produced many stars who have grown into renowned boxers.
Moroka stated that when the partnership started, it was KBL who approached them due to the association’s track record as boxing was known to be a medal sport in Botswana.
He said the association managed to launch women in boxing through the support of KBL and they believe it was an encouragement for more women to join the sport.
“I believe with this sponsorship we will be able to produce many future stars as boxing continues to raise Botswana flag high.”
The national championship preliminaries will be held in Kang on August 30-31 while the finals are billed for Gaborone on September 6. ENDS
