Maposa seals deal with United FC

Former Gaborone United goalkeeper, Noah Maposa, has signed a two-year deal with a South African National First Division (NFD) side.
Maposa began training with Pretoria-based United FC in June and after a week, the club showed interest in signing him. Maposa then agreed terms with the team and it was left for United and GU to negotiate the transfer deal.
In the end, the teams reached an agreement which will see Maposa return to Mvela after a short spell with Bay United in the 2010/11 season.
In an interview, Maposa said he was currently working on his police clearance and work permit. He said the team would be expecting him to arrive in South Africa between Friday and Saturday (August 22-23). He said the team would be travelling to Cape Town for a game next week Friday.
As for the spot in the team, Maposa said he would fight for the number one position in the starting lineup. “The team has four goalkeepers and even though the coach had shown interest in me, I still have to prove my worth” he said.
Maposa said he would use the experience from Bay United to survive in the league which according to him is much stronger and tougher than Botswana Premier League.
“I just have to keep focus, train hard and win games to help United FC gain promotion to the PSL” said Maposa. The former Under 23 goalkeeper however hailed Gaborone United for the support they gave him throughout the transfer negotiations.
“From the board, the coach and players, they all understood that I need to grow “he said. Maposa said his move will help create space for younger goalkeepers to develop.
“I am moving on and the younger players should step in and show what they have been learning from me” he said. Maposa said he had to aim higher so that when he returns to Botswana, he would have something that others would learn from him.
He said his move would help get him back to the national team. “I am still a national team player and at the end, the coach will make a decision, I just have to keep working hard” he said.
Noah will be under the tutelage of former Lesotho head coach, Lesley Notsi who identified him at last year’s COSAFA cup played in Zambia. ENDS
