Musariri wins inaugural nickel race

BCL Mine held a cycling race dubbed BCL Nickel Race on August 17 where close to 100 cyclists from around the country took part.

The race was divided into four categories: 105km, 60km, 30km and 10km fun race. In the main 105 km race, Aleck Musariri from Tsela Riders Club won the men’s race followed by Boipuso Masepe from Railway Cycling Club. Tebogo Bosilong also from Tsela Riders Club came third.

Only two women took part in the 105km race which was won by Lorato Anouk Van Der Geest while Chanana Modongo from Orapa came second. In the 60km male race, Losika Kelaotswe came first followed by Thato Madimore while Francois Le Roux came third.

The first female to reach the finish line in the 60km race was Tabona Bennett followed by Bakang Edudilwe while Promise Ntshese came third.

Obakeng Motlhabe won the 30km race in the male category, closely followed by Mpho Motlhanka while Amogelang Saduke took the third spot.  In the female 30km race, Gobona Mantle came first followed by Margaret Tshokonego while Tebogo Morapedi came third.

The 10km race was dominated by nine-year-old Keke Gaongalelwe followed by Thobo Junaid Molosankwe who clocked 0:27:17 while 13 year old Kamogelo Johane came in third in 0:30:30.

In the female 10km category, 11 year old Jane Mpho Molokwane came in first registering 0:22:29 followed by Poloko Kegaisitse who reached the finish line after 0:25:18 while Pearl Nyenyiwa took the third spot by clocking 0:32:03.

Meanwhile in an interview, BCL Mine’s Public Relations and Communications Manager, Mr James Molosankwe said that the cycling race is an inaugural event.

He said that his organization held the event to provide recreation for Selebi Phikwe and for residents to welcome visitors and compete with them. BOPA
