SPAR SuperStars tourney resumes8232

19 Aug 2014

Botswana Netball Association (BONA) courts were fully packed on August 16 as the BONA SPAR SuperStars tournament resumed following a week break.

The week-long break was meant to accommodate the visiting England Under 20 national team who had practice matches with their Botswana counterparts and the senior national team.

TeamBONA and SPARNorth delivered a mouthwatering first quarter as the latter scored first and seemed to have the game under control until the former, which comprised national team players, gained momentum and started to reveal their stripes.

BONA’s wing attacker, Gagotheko Tshelametsi took charge of centre court as she manoeuvered around the court winning balls from the opponents, but was unlucky in the second quarter as she made an early retirement due to injury.

SPARNorth goal shooter, Gaone Bogacu had an uphill battle in the box as goal keeper, Ntebogang Motlakaloso was on her case all day blocking and scooping all the balls. BONA girls were just on another level, putting the opponents under siege as they closed in on them not giving them a breather.

The national team girls were unfortunate again in the third quarter as they lost yet another player in goal attacker, Tumisang Bagidi to an injury who was replaced by Portia Rasekhumba.

Despite her petite physique, SPARNorth goal attacker, Kefilwe Bakwinya managed to help her team stay intact as she drove the balls to the goal mouth which saw her eventually claiming the women of the match award.

In the end, TeamBONA demolished SPARNorth with a huge margin of 70-16. In another encounter, SPARSouth beat FutureStars 37-26 in a game that saw the former’s goal shooter Lemogang Moganetsi having a field day as she was favoured by her height scooping balls from her short opponents.

Her teammate, goalkeeper Molly James also made a mark at the defence optimising on her height and full figure as she blocked the rather tiny goal attacker and shooter Kgalemang Sephala and Doreen Moatshe respectively.

The national Under 20 girls Malittle walloped SPARNorth 40-28. The tournament will continue for the next three weeks and players will eventually be selected to fill up the national team slots. ENDS
