Business as usual between Gaborone Nairobi
19 Aug 2014
Business between Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA) and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi is said to be usual despite the outbreak of Ebola in some parts of the Kenya Airways routes.
According to the Kenya Airways country manager, Ms Juliet Zintambila, all necessary precautions had been taken between the two cities to enable the smooth operations of the airways business.
Ms Zintambila said customers using their airlines should be rest assured that their lives were safe following the company’s decision to suspend their commercial flights operations to Liberia and Sierra Leone effective August 19.
She said all their passengers arriving at the JKIA from west Africa and Entebbe, and whose final destination was Nairobi, were now using a separate gate on arrival where screening would be done before being released to immigration officials and into the country so that they would not mix with other passengers from other countries where Ebola had not been realised such as Botswana.
She also said changing of flights from countries, which had been diagnosed with Ebola virus would not be allowed to take any other routes to countries where the disease had not been realised as part of the national Ebola containment strategy and related situation risk assessment.
Ms Zintambila said the provision of air transport services during such critical moments remained a crucial component of the outbreak containment and overall management. Ends
