A 29-year-old poverty eradication programme beneficiary in Ngarange, Ms Annah David has said the leadership of President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama is still needed in this era where people need help and encouragement.
Speaking in an interview recently, she said the President had showed his quality leadership by coming up with programmes and initiatives that were aimed at uplifting and enhancing the livelihoods of Batswana.
Ms David said since President Khama took over, he had been the pillar of this country through the introduction of poverty eradication programmes to ensure that those living in poverty lived with dignity.
She said the five D’s that President put in place when he took the office in 2008 had borne fruit in some departments.
Ms David, who received sewing machines through the programme, said President Khama brought many changes in some government departments like clinics, hospitals and councils where workers are delivering quality services to the public in time than before.
She said he has improved the lives of Batswana through the Ipelegeng programme, adding that many in her village are benefiting from such.
Furthermore, she noted that the poverty eradication programme also encourages local institutions to buy from local businesses to improve the development of their village.
Ms David said the leadership of President Khama improved food production in this country through the Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agricultural Development (ISPAAD).
She said through this programme, many in her region are ploughing every season in order to benefit from it and by so doing there is a lot of food that people harvest.
Ms David said that she also saw many people assisted by Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) during President Khama’s tenure.
She also said the President has set up the Housing Appeal for the needy in order to provide shelter to the needy members of society as well as giving them dignity.
Ms David said in her village, three old women have had houses built through the appeal and many are proud of being Batswana through such initiatives. Ends
