As recognition that sports promotes not only social cohesion but also encourages the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, MEDPLUS sponsored this year’s Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) annual sports tournament.

The tournament which was held at Open Baptist Church over the weekend (August 9-10)was sponsored by at P8000.00.

In his welcome remarks MEDPLUS Medical Centre General Manager, Dr SR Maje said as MEDPLUS they wanted to help build an army of sports heroes around that have a character with modeling. He also encouraged participants to network and do outreach together.  

The P8000.00 sponsorship comprised of two trophies for netball and football winning teams, trophies for best goal scorer in netball, football and the most behaved team.

The AFM annual sports tournament participating teams were Molepolole AFM, Gaborone Block 7 AFM, Mogoditshane AFM and Tlokweng AFM church football and netball teams.

“We at MEDPLUS strongly believe that we owe our existence to the community, hence our resolve to sponsor this year’s AFM annual sports tournament at the tune of P8000.00,” the company’s board member, Mr Golekanye Setume said.

He explained that the sponsorship forms part of their social responsibility where they concentrate in improving the standard of living, quality of life and creating a better social environment for the benefit of all members of the society and for the entire citizenry of this country.

Setume also relayed that their vision was to promote health and wellbeing of the local population.

“This vision tallies very well with the national vision of ensuring that Batswana are a healthy nation by the year 2016 and in particular, the key result area on enhanced wellbeing and responsibility where government aimed to among others; eradication of absolute poverty, equitable income distribution, adequate social services and affordable social services, affordable and quality healthcare,” he said.

MEDPLUS Medical Centre is a one stop health centre which was established late last year and is located in CBD i-towers. The centre offers various health services like dentistry, optometrist, dermatologist, physiotherapy, general practitioners, medical laboratory and Pharmacy. ENDS
