Maun hosts national WITS convention

North West District will host the 5th Northern region Work Improvement Teams (WITS) convention in Maun on August 20 -21, this year under the theme ‘Improved work ethics forquality service delivery.
The public relation officer, Ms Ethel Koma said the objective of the convention is to present projects that WITS teams from the different districts have come up with in order to improve service delivery at their workplace.
The region comprises of districts such as Chobe, Central, Francistown,Ghanzi, and North East, North West, Selibe Phikwe and Sowa.
A project is born out of the problemen countered at the work place and mechanisms are applied to solve it to improve service delivery.
The teams that would be presenting will be judged and top three will compete at the Ministerial Convention in Gaborone.
She said Mr Lewis Malikongwa who is the Government Information Coordination officer is expected to officiate at the event.
Giving a background of the Northern Region WITS Convention, Ms Koma explained that the convention started in 2010 hosted by North East District, in 2011 it was hosted by Ghanzi, 2012 it was in
Palapye and last year it was hosted by Chobe.
She also stated that they were committed as the Northern Region to ensure that in every convention held, a needy person is assisted by the involved districts and the hosting district is the beneficiary.
Ms Koma said in 2011 an individual was assisted with the building of a one roomed house and toilet, in 2012 bedding and clothes were bought for a needy person,while in 2013 a two and half house was built in Pandamatenga.
For the first time since theinception of the convention, she said a beauty pageant (Mr & Miss WITS Convention) would be held on August 19, 2014 a day prior to the convention.
The venue for the event is the Life Centre (village church) at Sedie ward.
The proceeds from the beauty pageant will be channeled to this year’s project.
Ms Koma appealed to all stakeholders to support the initiative by attending in large numbers. ENDS
