International Transport Conference starts Monday

Over 250 delegates from the world over are in Gaborone for an international transport conference that starts in Monday (March 4).
Countries represented at the conference are Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, UK, USA, Zambia, Norway, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Lesotho and Malawi. This is the sixth Africa International Transport Technology Transfer Conference.
The conference, held under the theme: Effective management of transport infrastructure for economic recovery in Africa, will give delegates the opportunity to discuss existing and new approaches on technology transfer that enables countries to develop effective management of transport systems that are safe, efficient, reliable and affordable.
A release from the Business Centre states that the conference provides delegates with an opportunity to share, exchange and debate experiences, best practices and new technologies of all modes of transport.
The conference is targeted at transport sector policy and decision makers, providers of all modes of transport, development partners, contractors, consultants, researchers, the academia, students, transport users and other interested parties.
The release also says an exhibition of all related industries will run concurrently with the conference where construction companies, consultants, local and foreign equipment suppliers will showcase their products, services and technologies.
Botswana’s transport minister Mr Nonofo Molefhi will officially open the conference. The meeting is a collaboration between the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Botswana Transport Technology Transfer Unit under the University of Botswana, as well as the Association of Southern African Road Agencies (ASNRA) .
