Rotary Club donates dictionaries

10 Aug 2014

The Rotary Club of Gaborone has donated 65 000 Webster’s dictionaries worth over P3 million to the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD).

In his acceptance and appreciation remarks at the handing over ceremony on August 7, the Assistant Minster of Education and Skills Development, Mr Keletso Rakhudu thanked the Rotary club for being part of the country’s economic diversity.

Mr Rakhudu further encouraged them to continue with their good work. Permanent secretary in MoESD, Mr Richard Matlhare said donation of dictionaries came at the right time as there was a project that needed a lot of textbooks.

Mr Matlhare said there were 207 junior secondary schools and they would distribute the dictionaries where there was a need.

“We will ensure that these dictionaries reach the students,” he said.

The President of Rotary Club of Gaborone, Mr John Cunliffe said the club would continue helping Batswana in general.

Meanwhile, a press release from MoESD states that the dictionaries are one of the projects done by the MoESD through the Adopt-A-School initiative.

The release further states that the initiative’s main objective is to involve individuals, parastatals, organisations and private companies to provide any assistance to schools so as to enhance teaching and learning process leading to better academic performance.

Since its inception, the initiative has saved government P3million. ENDS
