BoFiNet pumps P1 million into softball

06 Aug 2014

Botswana Softball Association (BSA) on August 5 received P1 million sponsorship deal from Botswana Fibre Network (BoFiNet) to  cover key activities such as the running of the league, development programms and upgrading of grounds.

The sponsorship deal is for a period of 15 months renewable term which is yet another milestone for the association as they recently received another sponsorship deal from Phillips International and Sharps Electrical to light up their grounds.

The sponsorship deal was launched concurrently with the senior women national team sendoff ceremony to the World Championships in Netherlands scheduled for August 15- 24.

The senior team participated in the World Championship in Venezuela in 2010 were they came position 15 out of 16 countries and they are expected to surpass that performance.

Speaking at the launch, Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) chairperson Solly Reikeletseng said deals such as the BoFiNet sponsorship do not come easily and should be preserved.

He said it was upon BSA to nurture this relationship and give BoFiNet value for what they have pumped in to their code.

Reikeletseng commended BSA for securing a sponsorship which he said is an indication of hard work, “You have worked hard and managed to lay grass at the National Diamond and you recently got a sponsorship to erect beam lights at the grounds which is highly commendable.”

To the players, he advised them to play safe, fair and work hard and bring the first ever medal in softball.

Reikeletseng applauded BSA for heeding BNSC’s call of their Strategy Vision 2028 which puts emphasis on grass roots development by setting up a softball youth team which some of the players have been roped in the senior team.

He said in sport success does not come by chance but through development and hard work and challenged everyone in sport to double their efforts.

BoFiNet strategy and business development executive, Thato Jansen said the sponsorship marks the beginning of a strategic partnership towards development of softball.

He said there was need to develop sport as an ingredient of socio economic growth and improve stature of the country globally.

Jansen said they are humbled that BSA approached them hence they remained committed to the new partnership.

“We want to ensure the realisation of strategic plan of the association through this sponsorship as these funds will contribute to all the structures of softball,” he said.
He further wished the senior team well and encouraged them to represent the country well and fly Botswana flag high. ENDS
