Earth Tremor hits Botswana

The Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources issued a statement on the earth tremor that occurred on August 5.
The earthquake that hit Orkney, South Africa is reported to be of an estimated magnitude of 5.3 Richter scale and was recorded by more than three stations being Magotlhwane (Botswana), South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The ground movement from the earthquake was felt in several places in Botswana including the Gaborone catchment area; Lobatse and surrounding areas, and Jwaneng.
The public is therefore advised to continue with their normal activities while the Department of Geological Survey continues monitoring the situation. Ends
