Tawana Land Board has no records on park ownership

06 Aug 2014

Tawana Land Board has no documentation that shows that Maun Educational Park (MEP) was the property of Fauna Conversation Society, said the Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake.

Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Mokalake said in 2010 the response to question 64 stated that the land in question was leased out to government as per the available memorandum of the agreement of lease.

He said the effect of the certificate issued in terms of Regulation 21 (4) signed by Tawana Land Board Chairman, is that no customary rights existed with respect to the piece of land described in the accompanying Lease Agreement.

Mr Mokalake said his ministry is not aware of any fraud committed by the land board on the community of Ngamiland.
Maun West MP, Mr Tawana Moremi had asked the minister whether there was documentation showing that the Maun Educational park was the property of Fauna and that the same board has no record of transfer with regard to MEP and the effect of the certificate issued and signed by the board chairman and whether any sanction is available for the fraud of the board on the community of Ngamiland.
