Government has approved the establishment of 19 additional sub-districts, to be implemented throughout NDP 10 and beyond in order to improve service delivery, says Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Peter Siele.

He said due to resource constraints, only two sub-districts of Mogoditshane/Thamaga and Tsabong were established in 2010 and 2012 respectively after rationalizing existing resources.

Minister Siele, said in addition to the two sub district, four administrative authorities were established in 2009/10 at Molepolole, Kanye, Maun, Serowe.


Furthermore, he said some services continue to be provided at Nata, Shakawe and Lentsweletau service centres and these will gradually be upgraded to sub districts as and when the economy improves.


The minister said he could not say with any degree of certainty when sub-districts would be established during the remaining part of NDP 10 as there are no resources that have been set aside for establishment of Sub Districts.


Member of Parliament for Shoshong, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele had wanted the minister to state progress made in implementing a motion that called on government to fast track the setting up of sub district and to provide as annexure to his answer, a time table for the implementation of this motion during the remaining NDP 10 period.
