Kanye librabry needs equipment
06 Aug 2014
Kanye library, like most others across the country is facing an increased demand for play Advanced Micro Devices (AMDs) for children’s use and computers for internet access.
Minister of Health, Dr John Seakgosing said in Parliament that the Kanye Library has three play AMDs out of which two are functional and one is out of order.
He said the library was also issued with eight computers through Sesigo project which was the maximum affordable at the time.
He said in addition to computers, wireless internet access is provided for members of the public within a radius of 300 meters of the library.
He said therefore, people are at liberty to bring their own lap tops and smart phones to access the internet for free. Responding on behalf of Youth, Sport and Culture ministry, Dr Seakgosing said the number of AMDs and computers in Kanye is what is affordable currently.
He said he cannot state categorically when the equipment will be increased, but noted however that consideration to do so will be made in future when the financial situation improves.
He was responding to questions asked by Kanye South MP, Mr Abram Kesupile who had wanted to know if the ministry was aware that the public library in Kanye is plagued by acute shortage of AMD learning material for the children’s section of the library as well as computers to provide for the growing demand for computer literacy and internet services.
