Society launches Bible month

05 Aug 2014

The Bible society has launched the Bible month themed “Read it, own it and live it” on August 2, at Tati Town customary court which brought together Christians and stakeholders from across Botswana.

Speaking at the launch, High Court judge Justice Mpaphi Phumaphi said the Bible is an immutable constitution that has governed Christians’ lives from time immemorial and remains true even today and shall so remain hereafter.

He stressed that the word of God is central to the Christians teachings, therefore it is the pinnacle, the pillar and the connection of Christians and stated that the Bible is the oldest book ever and has stood the test of time and it does not change.

Judge Phumaphi said the Bible is a powerful, sacred and meaningful tool, whether opened or closed, stressing that when closed it has ‘strange’ yet extra ordinary powers so much that people use it to dispel bad luck, omen and sorcery, and when opened people engage with it and have an encounter with God.

He noted that people must be willing to read the Bible with open ears, eyes and hearts, stressing that it should be read critically and contextually in order to unleash the relevant message of God.

Furthermore, he urged Christians to live the word of God; stressing that by so doing they would be prosperous in all aspects of life and have prolonged life like Methuselah.

The finance and administration manager of Bible Society, Ms Rose Mabutho said the Bible shall ever be the document from which wisdom, fear of God, prayer, praise, fellowship and sharing is drawn from.

She stated that the nation has consciously and unconsciously gathered around the Bible in all seasons of life, stressing that institutional meetings are always started with the sharing of the word of God.

Ms Mabutho said the word of God continues to bind people in ways that only God understands, stating that when people celebrate, they look up to God through his word in prayer and still more when they mourn they look up to God for comfort and strength.

She said the objectives of the Bible Society are to promote reading culture through scripture engagement, raise awareness on the value of the bible in the community. Ends
