Lack of funds delay re-gravelling

05 Aug 2014

Due to lack of funds, the re-gravelling of Kachikau-Parakarungu road will not be done immediately, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi has said.

Responding to a question in Parliament from Chobe MP, Mr Gibson Nshimwe, Mr Molefhi, said the estimated cost of re-gravelling was P8 million, at a cost P250 000 per kilometres.

This road, he said was last graveled by Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in 2011. “My ministry is currently grading the road once a month with an in-house grader to keep the road useable,” he added.

However, transport and communications minister said the dry grading was planned to be outsourced in August 2014, adding that this would increase the frequency to twice a month.

Mr Nshimwe had asked Mr Molefhi when his Ministry intended to gravel the Kachikau – Parakarungu road and how much it would cost. Ends
