05 Aug 2014
BancABC recently donated a four-roomed house to the Swaki family in Tonota as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The house valued at P130 000 was donated to 24 members of the Swaki family who have been living together in one room. Officiating at the event, the Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri applauded BancABC for its long standing relationship with Tonota residents.
Mr Matlhabaphiri said the noble gesture will, in no small way, assisted in addressing the growing needs of various communities and added fresh impetus to the nation’s commitment towards dignity for all.
That, he highlighted, was in line with the ideals of the national vision of ensuring a compassionate, just and caring nation. Furthermore, Mr Matlhabaphiri said the bank’s gesture left a long lasting impression to the Swaki family and its future generation.
He, however, stressed that government, through its flagship programme of poverty eradication, sought long standing partnership with the private sector and voluntary organisations, to come up with strategies that addressed any impediments as the country moved towards improving the lives of Batswana through sustainable economic activities.
Again, he said through the Presidential Housing Appeal, government had resolved to provide shelter to many deserving and needy families across Botswana, hence the handing over of the four roomed house a testament that government’s message was reaching the corporate world.
BancABC managing director, Mr Jitto Kurian stated that his bank had people’s interests in mind and was aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of Batswana where possible.
Mr Kurian also noted that they strived to archive a positive and sustainable impact on the economic and social development of Botswana. He also indicated that through their guiding principles in the areas of women and children, arts and culture, education, health and disability, they continued to play a part in making Botswana a better society for all to live in, regardless of background or social standing.
The donation, he added has thus brought them closer to their goal of impacting social development in Botswana, where beneficiaries will be more likely to be motivated, be active members of the society and contribute in one way or another to the economy of Botswana.
Member of Parliament for Tonota South, Mr Pono Moatlhodi also praised the bank for its contribution in developing the lives of Batswana. ENDS
