SADC calls emergency meeting
05 Aug 2014
Following the outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD), the SADC secretariat will convene a one-day emergency meeting for ministers of health of the organisation and partners in Johannesburg, South Africa, on August 6.
A news release from SADC stated that the meeting would be attended by all SADC ministers of health, senior officials, World Health Organisation and other technical partners.
The main purpose of the meeting will be to bring together ministers and key stakeholders to build a consensus on appropriate strategic action(s) to prevent the introduction or spread of the Ebola virus in the SADC region.
The emergency meeting, the release said, will also provide a forum for the region to share technical experiences on the Ebola virus disease (EVD) so that the region could remain vigilant and come up with common understanding regarding containment of the EVD in case of an outbreak; and to agree on a strategy for accelerated operational response.
