Diamonds knowledge imperative

Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) communications specialist, Ms Tebogo Moribame-Setiko has encouraged pupils to know more of Botswana diamonds and their significance towards the economy.
Speaking at the launch of a diamond educational book titled: The Journey of Botswana’s Diamonds’ at Matsha College in Kang recently, Ms Moribame-Setiko explained that the book was designed to educate secondary schools learners about the Botswana diamond industry.
She said that the key objective of the diamond book was to bridge the diamond knowledge gap and instil a greater sense of appreciation of diamonds in our society. “We hope that through this book, learners will have new insights into the diamond industry and be diamond ambassadors in the broader society,” she said.
She indicated that DTC Botswana has embarked on a nation-wide educational tour educating senior secondary schools about the diamond industry and conducting mini-diamond book launches at the schools.
Ms Moribame- Setiko indicated that DTCB saw it fitting last year to write a book about diamonds after realising that Botswana was the largest producer of diamond by value worldwide.
She said the book was launched last year at the Minister of Education and Skills Development(MoESD) where they were given go ahead to distribute it among high schools in Botswana. She said they started distributing the book towards end of last year and the expectation is that towards end of this year the distribution will be done.
Ms Moribame- Setiko noted that the diamond education book’s key objective is to bridge the diamond knowledge gap, enlighten and instil a greater sense of appreciation of diamonds in the society. She also indicated that the book is designed with the hope that it will arm learners with the right knowledge to serve as diamond ambassadors in the society.
She said the book diamond contain essential and informative material that will build up new insights within students concerning diamonds.
Moreover Ms Moribame-Setiko encouraged students to read the book because it also explicates how diamonds were formed and how they have and continue to contribute immensely to the economy of Botswana. Ms Moribame-Setiko also urged pupils to share with their families and friends the information they attain from the diamond education book.
Meanwhile Thabang Sekgothe a form four students at Matsha College expressed his gratitude to DTCB for providing students with book that elucidates diamond industry. Ms Sekgothe noted that she hoping to acquire more knowledge about diamonds after going through the book. ENDS
