Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) has donated school uniforms to needy students from different schools in the Kgatleng District.

Speaking during the handing over in Sikwane on Thursday (July 31), the Acting Regional Manager of South Central region Ms Metsiatsile Ntwayame said their objective was to extend help to the needy students.

She said they recognise the importance of education as a basic human right hence they saw it necessary to donate school uniforms to Sikwane primary, Letsebe and Mabalane primaries.

Ms Ntwayame further said BURS has committed itself to corporate social responsibility programme as they view themselves as part and parcel of the society where they operate.

She said each member of staff from the south central region made a monthly contribution towards the donation as a gesture to appreciate the 2016 pillar which emphasizes a compassionate and caring nation.

Ntwayame added that the donation has been made easier through consultation with social and community development office, teachers and parents.

Ms Bonang Lekorwe, who spoke on behalf of parents, ran short of words as she thanked BURS for their donation to children who truly needed them.

Ms Lekorwe added that the children who benefited are expected to do better academically because “they can now concentrate and study with worrying about lack of uniform.”

When giving a vote of thanks, Councillor Johannes Modibedi of Sikwane/Mabalane ward extended a warm gratitude to BURS for extending a helping hand.
Councillor Modibedi said caring for children is a great privilege because it has long term benefits for the children and the country.

He implored parents to make sure that these school uniforms are well taken care of so that they will benefit the children over a long period of time.
