03 Aug 2014

More than P1.7 million has been paid as compensation to individuals who own properties affected by the Maun Infrastructure Phase II project.

Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Olebile Gaborone said some residents reroofed to collect their compensation fees from the contractor Tuwana Construction Co. (Pty) Ltd who was subsequently released from his contractual obligation.

He said the release of the contractor followed the completion of defects which were attended to during the defects liability period.
On the other hand, Mr Gaborone said in the Maun Infrastructure Phase I project there was monetary compensation which was done during that project.

MP for Maun West Mr Tawana Moremi had asked the minister how much money has been paid to residents of Maun with regards to the houses that suffered cracks due to the construction compaction for the period 2009 to date. ENDS
