31 Jul 2014

The battle lines are drawn in the Barclays Kabelano Charity Cup. Four teams will battle for supremacy at the National Stadium on Saturday (August 2).

The four teams will also battle for bragging rights whereas the players will parade their news hair styles and tattoos; that is what to expect when four giants: Gaborone United, Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Extension Gunners and Township Rollers would be in one kraal.

The first game that will start at 10 a.m, has pitted Gaborone United and the defending champions Mochudi Centre Chiefs, the game is a must watch because when the two sides meet, it is the grass that suffers most, and normally it is always difficult to predict as to which one of them will emerge victorious.

However, Mochudi Centre Chiefs will be without Lemponye Tshireletso, Galabgwe Moyana Onalethata Tshekiso who are on national duty, whereas Gaborone United will miss the service of Jackie Mothatego, Edwin Olerile and Mandla Mgadlah.

Chiefs’ communications manager, Clifford Mogomotsi said his team is prepared for the cup, adding that they have new players that they are going to parade.

He said as defending champions there is no how they could let Gaborone United beat them because as a team they want to defend what belongs to them.

He further said at Chiefs it is a common cause that the team use the Charity cup to gauge how prepared they are for the league. On the other hand, Gaborone United, secretary, Herbert Letsebe said the team is more than ready more that they just came from pre-season training in South Africa.

He said his players are also focused in winning the Barclays Kabelano charity cup, since GU is the hungrier side than the other sides because they have not participated in the cup for some time now.

Herbert said tomorrow they are going all out to prove to everyone that they deserve to be participating every year.

“We will be parading the players we already announced, Tendai Nyamadzawo, Thabiso Khunwane and Phillip Nnehte, we might have two surprise guest players, so our supporters must come in large numbers to witness a bit of glimpse of what to expect this season,” he said.

Players to watch in the game are Tendai Nyamadzawo (GU) and Ayanda Molefe (Centre Chiefs). The winner will take the winner between Extension Gunners and Township Rollers.

The second game scheduled to start at 12 noon same day, will be between Extension Gunners aka Mapantsula and Township Rollers –Mapalastina.

The game is going to be very interesting given that Mapalastina havea score to settle as Gunners eliminated them in the Kabelano cup last year.

It was the same Mapantsula who denied Township Rollers opportunity to lift the be Mobile trophy at Selebi Phikwe when Rollers were leading 2-nil and Gunners came from behind and equalised.

However both teams have a lot in common, large following, they play positive and entertaining football and there is no doubt that, the supporters will get value for their money.

Township will face Gunners limping because five of their crucial players Mwampole Masule, Leutwetse Tshireletso, Obonye Moswate, Otlantshekela Mooketsi, Olebile Ncenga who have traveled with the national team to Guinea Bissau.

However, that will not be an excuse, because teams are supposed to register a minimum of at least 25 players who can be engaged when situation like this arise.

It will be time for all to judge the technical aspect of Township Rollers technical bench. Extension Gunners have some good new signees amongst them Topo Piet, Kemmy Pilato and Isaac Paeye who can cause havoc for Rollers defence.

Players to watch in the game: Topo Piet (Gunners) and Michael Pepukani (Township Rollers). The final is expected to start at 16: 30 pm and tickets are sold at Choppies outlets in Gaborone, Lobatse and Molepolole. ENDS
