BDF to host exercise Tshwaragano
24 Jul 2014
Botswana Defence Force (BDF) will host a joint training exercise with the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) in the general area of Ghanzi District.
A news release from the BDF states that the exercise, co-named ‘Exercise Tshwaragano’, will commence on July 27 and end on August 15.
The release says the aim of the exercise is to enhance the two forces’ capabilities in Peace Support Operations and build capacity on issues of responsibility between the two armies.
The exercise will also enhance relations between the two neighbouring countries. Additionally, the defence forces belong to SADC member states; as such they are required to develop and maintain a level compatible to AU/UN standards; hence the need for regular training to include field training at national and multi-national levels.
The release further states that the exercise is expected to bring together close to 600 troops and it will culminate with a VIP day, which will be attended by high level dignitaries from the two countries, High Command of the two Defence Forces, Defence Attaches accredited to Botswana, and local authorities.
