Regulations guide trading

24 Jul 2014

The Assistant minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says she is not aware that the Francistown City Council does not allow the informal sector to operate in Francistown.

Answering a question in Parliament, Ms Tshireletso however informed the House that the Francistown City Council allows informal sector trading within the city in line with the council hawking and street vending regulations and the Waste Management Act of 1998.

She said on the basis of the above, she will not consider enlisting these people under the destitute programme since they have alternative source of income.

Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Wynter Mmolotsi had wanted to know whether the minister is aware that the Francistown City Council does not allow the informal sector in Francistown, and to state the substitute economic activities that the people of Francistown should engage in and if she will consider enlisting these people in the destitute programme since they do not have any source of income. ENDS
