Chinese donates to charity fund
24 Jul 2014
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce has donated P30 000 to the charity fund for the mayor of Francistown.
The donation was presented to the mayor, Mr James Kgalajwe, by the chairperson of the chamber, Mr Fu Yi Nina recently.
Since the charity fund was founded in 2012, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce agreed with the mayor’s office to donate an annual amount of P30 000. This is the third year running that the Chinese kept their promise to Francistown City Council.
The objective of the charity fund is to help residents of Francistown who are living in abject poverty.
Mr Kgalajwe said his office intended to use the charity fund to compliment what the council was already doing in helping orphans.
The fund’s focus includes buying educational materials such as books, pens and other materials needed.
At present, the Francistown City Council is taking care of 1 202 orphans. Mr Kgalajwe appealed to help support the orphans.
“I plead with companies to donate towards this fund and emulate the Chinese,” he said. “We would love to organise fundraising activities and therefore welcome anyone with a feasible and profitable idea to come forward in helping us achieve our aims.”For his part, Mr Fu promised the chamber would continue to honour the agreement.
