Permanent Secretary to the President Mr Eric Molale has urged district commissioners to ensure effective implementation of government programmes in their respective districts.

Speaking during the District Commissioners workshop organised by Government Implementation and Coordination Office (GICO) in Palapye on Thursday July 17, Mr Molale said the country had “very good programmes” but had a challenge of poor implementation.

Mr Molale said implementation of programmes started at the districts not urban areas therefore the honour lay with district officers to ensure that implementation of programmes was done to improve the quality of life of Batswana.

He said government programmes such as ISPAAD, Youth Development Fund, Basic Education and Enterprise development existed to improve the livelihoods of Batswana.

Mr Molale said over 300 employees were tasked with implementation of programmes but the results were not satisfactory. He implored them to draw a road map on how they were going to achieve the goals they set themselves by evaluating the things that would help them reach their destination.

He said DCs as coordinators of government programmes should monitor processes and employ measures to cut some processes. He said the delay in processing payments for farmers under ISPAAD for instance, would result in people resorting to Ipelegeng instead of producing food for the nation. In addition, he said lead measures would result in customer satisfaction.

For his part, GICO coordinator Mr Louis Malikongwa said the District Administration was an important stakeholder to GICO hence very important to plan what GICO would be doing in the districts with the DCs.

GICO was responsible for ensuring improved service delivery, monitoring and evaluation, coordinating projects and programmes for better implementation, he said. ENDS
