17 Jul 2014

Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng has urged parents to support and release children to take part in sports.

He said when launching tennis' Reba Bona Ha in Serowe recently. He said the programme was crucial to children as it created opportunities and opened doors for sport careers for them.

Reikeletseng said it was important that all stakeholders which included parents, teachers and coaches support each other so that the programme can become a success.

He said it is their belief that the programme will produce athletes that can compete at the highest international level and win medals for the country.

“This is a life time opportunity that a lot of children in this country do not get and I want to implore the Serowe community to ensure that their children greatly benefit from this programme,” he said.

He pleaded with community leaders to support not only their children but even sport structures that have been put in place to provide sporting opportunities to the children.

Reikeletseng commended Botswana Tennis Association for organising the coaches’ course to be based at the centre, saying they will facilitate the identification of talent at grassroots level thus contributing to the development of tennis in the country. He said through the association’s hard work, there is a possibility that a high performance centre be built locally provided government buys into the idea.

He pointed out that the International Tennis Federation has shown interest in helping to establish and run the centre. ENDS
