Information vital to successful business

17 Jul 2014

Information is an integral component when promoting a business as it guides on how to operate a business effectively and differently from competitors.

Speaking during a mini show and market day in Good Hope recently, an entrepreneur, Mr Nathaniel Modibedi said entrepreneurs should read more of business news magazines, listen to business related programmes on radio and television to become knowledgeable and experienced on how to run successful businesses.

He said with a wide array of business information they could get feasible information that they could use to support their businesses’ sales and returns. He said they could also find different means to distribute their products locally and even to penetrate international markets.

Mr Modibedi applauded government for taking a bold step to improve the livelihoods of citizens by enrolling them into poverty eradication programmes as a way of encouraging them to venture into businesses.

He said Barolong sub-district has about 49 beneficiaries who were assisted through poverty eradication programme while 20 have already started small businesses such as woodwork, leatherwork, bakery, food processing, pottery, patch work and sewing whereas 29 have been orientated awaiting equipment from relevant authorities.

Mr Modibedi said all the beneficiaries should look out for opportunities to execute sound based businesses to uplift their livelihoods as well as to improve food security for the country.

Mr Modibedi said there were challenges when operating a business and urged them to be determined as well as to strive to match the product or service strengths with the needs of a target market.

For her part senior assistant council secretary for Good Hope sub- district, Ms Keitumetse Moilwa applauded all the exhibitors for their effort.

Ms Moilwa said mini shows allowed exhibitors to share skills and ideas as well as to give them an opportunity to prepare for international consumer fair that will be held in Gaborone.

Furthermore, she encouraged them to make use of business cards as it bears information that will make it easier for customers to reach them.

The mini show and market day was hosted by Department for Social and Community Development under Good Hope sub-district council.  ENDS
