Youth ministry value importance of mentorship

17 Jul 2014

Parliament has been informed that the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture value the importance of mentorship especially for youth enterprises.

Answering a question in Parliament, acting Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Vincent Seretse said he agreed with the adage that Letlhaku le lesha le agelwa mo go le legologolo and this was a result of engagements with the youth who had ventured into economic projects.

He said the ministry was in the process of appointing mentors for beneficiaries of the Youth Development Fund.

Minister Seretse further said consultations are on-going with the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) on the terms of reference for the mentorship programme.

“In future, funded projects will be assigned mentors for guidance and capacity building and this will improve the success rate of youth enterprises,” he said.

Minister Seretse was answering a question from MP for Kanye South Mr Abram Kesupile who had asked the Minister to explain why he cannot be guided by the adage “letlhaku le lesha le agelwa mo go le legologolo” and consider as a requirement appointing suitable adult mentors in some schemes intended for youth to venture into serious gainful economic projects.
