16 Jul 2014

The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri has told Parliament that the Ministry of Health is aware that S’brana Psychiatric Hospital does not have 300 beds as per the design bed capacity of the hospital.

He said the hospital currently runs with 223 beds after additional beds were procured in the last financial year.

Mr Matlhabaphiri stated that 50 of these beds will be commissioned to the different wards within the next coming week adding that after commissioning of the 50 beds there will be enough beds in the hospital to cater for the current admission rates.

He said the ministry’s plans to procure the remaining 77 beds this financial year to bring the facility to its full bed capacity.

Mr Matlhabaphiri was responding to a question on behalf of the Minister of Health from MP for Lobatse Mr Nehemiah Modubule who had asked him to state whether the S’brana hospital has enough beds; if not when will this be addressed to avoid patients having to sleep on the floors. ENDS
