The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi has told Parliament that all gravel roads require regular maintenance once they have developed corrugations.
He said the Motlhalawakgomo through Selokolela and Gasita to Lorolwane road was last graded on June 27 this year. Mr Molefhi said the ministry had plans to outsource maintenance of the road through dry grading and spot improvement this financial year.
He said tender evaluation was at an advanced stage and the recommendation for award would be considered by ministerial tender committee on July 17. Mr Molefhi said the ministry had put in place plans to maintain the Sesu through Seherelela- Tsonyane to Lefhoko road in house.
He stated that grading between Sesu and Seherelela was completed on July 8 2014 and the grading is ongoing between Seherelela and Tsonyane and is expected to be completed by July 18 2014. Further, Mr Molefhi said the ministry intends to grade the road once every two months.
MP for Kanye South Mr Abram Kesupile had asked the minister to state the extent of damage that would qualify the Motlhalawakgomo through Selokolela and Gasita to Lorolwane and Sesu through Seherelela- Tsonyane to Lehoko roads for comprehensive maintenance. ENDS
