2 389 commit suicide

The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse, says since 2007, a total of 2 389 people committed suicide.
He said 313 in 2007, 325 in 2008, 324 in 2009, 338 in 2010, 310 in 2011, 333 in 2012, 331 in 2013 and 115 from January 6 to July 2014.
Responding to a question in Parliament from Francistown West MP, Dr Habaudi Hobona, Mr Seretse said causes of suicide included, amongst others; intimate partner related killing, illness, family misunderstandings or financial problems.
Dr Hobona had asked Mr Seretse to state the rate of suicide cases from 2007 to date and the cause of such. ENDS
