A Maun business woman, Ms Hanna Lecha has encouraged students to think outside the box and use what they learnt in school in real world.

Speaking at the inaugural North West region practical subject fair in Maun on July 12, Ms Lecha said practical subjects evoked creative thinking in students, which was needed in the industry.

“The importance of practical subjects in the creative industry and the economy should never be underestimated but should be highly encouraged and promoted at all costs,” she said.

She noted that the practical subject fair enhanced the spirit of competition among students, which propels them for higher achievements.

“The world is about competition, in the classroom, at the workplace and in business. One has to be innovative in life and business to succeed in life,” she said.

Ms Lecha said competition was also instrumental in building the students’ confidence, adding that students who were not selected for the finals were not failures, but should use what they learnt for the future.

Meanwhile, Ms Lecha applauded Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) for encouraging and promoting practical subjects in schools. She said research showed that practical subjects played a vital role in industries and professions like dress making, architecture, engineering as well as job creation.

In his remarks, chairperson of North West region practical subject fair, Mr Legodile Seganabeng said the fair was a platform to showcase the students’ potential as well as to select the best students to represent the region at the national fair to be held in August 18-23rd.

Mr Seganabeng said 14 senior secondary schools from the region were competing, adding that students living with disabilities from the Thuso Rehabilitation Centre and Moremi Memorial School also showcased their exhibits.

He said one private school; Okavango International School also took part in the fair, saying they planned to bring aboard all private schools in Maun in future. ENDS
