Ministry trains land board members

14 Jul 2014

Parliament has been told that following the appointment of members of the land board, Ministry of Lands and Housing organises workshops to induct them on the operations of the ministry, land boards and government system at large.

Responding to a question from the MP for Maun West, Mr Tawana Moremi, Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake said at these training workshops, land board members are given working knowledge on land management issues including trusteeship functions of Land Boards.

Further, he said such duties are embedded in the member’s appointment contracts.

He noted that they include but not limited to devoting and fully committing their time to the land board activities, adhering to principles of impartiality and collective responsibility, desisting from leaking confidential information to unauthorised persons and avoiding conflict of interest.

Minister Mokalake said land boards have legal advisors in their establishments to advise them on any legal matters including their obligations as trustees.

He said where there are no legal advisors in the establishment, legal advice services are outsourced.

MP Moremi had asked the Minister of Lands and Housing what training is availed to incoming land board members on the duties and obligation of trustees; and what capacity is built in the land board structures in the law of the trust.
