Dumping site not approved

13 Jul 2014

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso has told Parliament that there is no dumping site which was approved for development at Kutamagoree in 2012.

Answering a question, Ms Tshireletso said the ministry, through Central District Council, has made an application for a disposal site, which was submitted to the Marapong Sub-land Board in January. She said if and when the application is approved, the council would develop the dumping site.

Currently, Ms Tshireletso said waste is stored at a strategically located transfer station in Kutamagoree and later transported to Dukwi dumping site for final disposal.

She was responding to a questions asked by Nata/Gweta MP, Mr Rayner Makosha, who had asked the minister to brief Parliament on the status of development of the dumping site in Kutamagoree, which was approved for development in 2012 and to state the reasons for the delay. ENDS
