Government suspends new projects
13 Jul 2014
Parliament has been told that Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) has, during NDP 9, envisaged to expand some of the existing schools, including building five new junior secondary schools to reduce congestion.
Assistant Minister Keletso Rakhudu, however said because of resource constraints due to the global economic meltdown in 2008, government took a decision to suspend all new projects and gave priority to maintenance of existing facilities, thus failing to expand as had been envisaged.
Mr Rakhudu said in view of resource constraints, Maraka JSS facilities augmentation would be considered along with other schools on a phased in approached, with priority being given to most needy schools around the country.
He was answering Kanye South MP, Mr Abram Kesupile, who wanted to know if the ministry was aware that Maraka JSS in Letlhakane East was in dire need of a pavilion for school and public events. Mr Kesupile also wanted the ministry to state if the school was part of the immediate infrastructure development and if not, will the school be considered. ENDS
