Who will lift the World Cup trophy
10 Jul 2014
After an enjoyable football experience, the world cup is going towards its final stages and anticipation is rife among many Batswana who are hoping that their preferred teams will be crowned champions.
The world cup is truly a prestigious football extravaganza. New records have been set. Some are excited that their teams have progressed to the final stages while others are disappointed that their teams were knocked out.
From the first 32 teams right up to the final two, it has been a roller coaster ride that was filled with tears, disappointment, elation and serious football fever.
Big teams have disappointed; star players thrilled their fans while others flopped; underdogs rose to the occasion and tasted super stardom while new stars were discovered.
On Sunday July 13, the two finalists, Germany and Argentina will clash at Maracana in a highly anticipated showdown that will determine who is the world champion.
Many Batswana have rallied behind either one of the two teams. But what the World Cup has done for Batswana, that is more important than anything, is to heighten their love for sports in general and football in particular.

The World Cup was highly competitive this time around because underdogs like Colombia and Costa Rica came to the fore and delivered wonderful performances to prove that they are forces to reckon with. It was an open competition, which heightened anticipation and made every game unpredictable. Nobody thought teams like Argentina would go far, but they rose to the occasion and went as far as the finals. The time difference was an inconvenience for Batswana because we had to stay up late to watch the games, which made waking up in the morning a big challenge. This is going to be a tough final, but I will put my money on Germany because they are indomitable.

The World Cup went well despite a few controversial decisions by referees. African teams were very unfortunate as they were knocked out early.
It was easy going in the early stages but things got tougher as the tournament progressed towards the quarterfinals. At first I thought Brazil would win because they enjoyed home ground advantage, but now I support Germany.

The World Cup was very entertaining to watch and no one knew what to expect.I believe Germany will triumph against Argentina because they never give up. The Germans are a well-oiled machine, their play is unique, they have no goal scoring limit and their mental strength is an advantage. They are very determined to win this cup and Argentina doesn’t stand a chance.

This was the most unpredictable competition I have ever seen. Time was a problem and I failed to watch some of the games. Most of us didn’t subscribe and we were forced to watch the game at our neighbours houses or public places like bars. Everyone was hoping that Brazil would win, but the other teams just didn’t give them a chance. Many of us under estimated Argentina and now they are at the final. I see them winning this World Cup.
