The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse says his office is aware there were some married police officers who share accommodation.
Responding to a question from the MP for Gaborone West South Mr Botsalo Ntuane in Parliament on Tuesday, July 9 Minister Seretse said the situation was exacerbated by shortage of suitable and adequate accommodation.
He said government continue to build suitable houses throughout the country citing the on-going building of police houses in Block 10 in Gaborone and Letlhakane.
The minister said where there is no accommodation provided for police officers, government will seek suitable houses in the open market for rental. Minister Seretse said Gaborone West Police Station has seven married households sharing with single officers.
These officers, he said are allocated three bed roomed houses of which one room is reserved as a spare room for both families. MP Ntuane had asked the minister if he is aware that married police officers at Gaborone West Police Station share accommodation; if so; what will he do to rectify the situation. ENDS
