Schools operate beyond holding capacity
09 Jul 2014
The assistant minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Keletso Rakhudu has told Parliament that most of secondary schools, both junior and senior are operating beyond their holding capacity for classroom space.
He stated that during NDP 9 government had envisaged to expand some of these schools including building new five junior secondary schools to reduce congestion.
However, the assistant minister said due to resource constraints, especially during the economic meltdown government took a decision to suspend all new projects except for maintenance of existing facilities.
For this reason he said government was unable to expand as planned.
He said construction of new classrooms not only for Nanogang JSS but across the country will be considered on a phased in approach with priority being given to most needy schools.
He said accordingly Nanogang JSS will be assessed against other schools.
MP for Gaborone Central Mr Dumelang Saleshando had asked him whether there were any plans to construct additional classrooms at Nanogang JSS in Gaborone. ENDS
