Mochudi power network to be extended
09 Jul 2014
Mochudi is among the nine villages selected for power network extension project during 2014/2015 financial year.
Answering a question in Parliament, Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources Mr Kitso Mokaila said the project was still at design stage prior to village reticulation expansion.
He said other villages within the Kgatleng District which were not covered by the standard connection cost of P5000.00, will be considered for network extension in future as and when funds are available.
The minister said the consumers of power are charged a levy currently set at 5 thebe per kilowatt (5t/kWh) of electricity, sold by Botswana Power Corporation as stipulated in the Control of Goods (National Electrification( Levy) Regulations of 2010.
The purpose of the fund, he said was to finance the cost of the subsidy required to enable households within the 500m from the designated transformer to connect to the electricity grid.
Member of Parliament, Mr Isaac Mabiletsa had asked the Minister to explain as to when he will expand the power network area in Mochudi, and other villages within the Kgatleng District which were not covered by the standard connection cost of P5000.00.
Mr Mabiletsa had also wanted to know if there was any levy charged on consumers of power to contribute towards a fund to facilitate the connection of power to new homes at a standard cost. ENDS
