The Ministry of health has plans to upgrade all health posts in the country to clinics, including Gakuto Health Post, once funds are available, the assistant minister of Health, Dr Gloria Somolekae, has said.
Responding to a question in Parliament from Kweneng East MP, Maj. Gen. Moeng Pheto, Dr Somolekae said Lentsweletau and Kopong have clinics, whilst Gakuto was serviced by a health post. “My ministry is aware of the population growth in Gaphatswa that has surpassed the criterion for establishing health facilities; however there are no plans in NDP 10 to construct a Health facility in this village,” she said.
Dr Somolekae said currently, Gaphatswa community is serviced by Metsimotlhabe Clinic which has the radius of five kilometers. Kweneng East MP had asked the assistant minister of Health what plans were in place to upgrade or provide adequate medical facilities for the Lentsweletau, Gakuto, Kopong and Gaphatswa, which he said did not have clinics and that medical facilities in some of the villages had been surpassed by population growth.
