Continuency games transform Moshopha
07 Jul 2014
The introduction of constituency games has drastically reduced wayward behavior among the youth of Moshopha in Sefhare/Ramokgonami constituency.
One of the village’s youth, Oduetse Keotswetse said most of her peers now invest their time in training and preparing for these games, a process that divert them from unruly behavior.
The 33 year old told BOPA in an interview recently that deviant behaviour such as drugs and alcohol abuse is now rare in their village as a result of constituency games.
Keotswetse who joined constituency games in 2009 said currently she is a leader of Moshopha Young Tigers netball team. She said although she is not satisfied with the performance of the teams from her village, she is glad that participants never give up as they always show passion and commitment in what they do.
She said it is her team’s dream to save some of the money they won during the competitions and start a project that will create jobs for the youth in future.
She further said the games give the youth an opportunity to unearth their talents in sports, adding that some of them may end up playing for big teams.
Keotswetse however noted that they are facing some challenges which include shortage of players in their teams. This is because some of their players migrate to town in search of greener pastures, she said. ENDS
