The Balete community has been urged to rally behind Letlapeng FC as the team prepare for its maiden in the beMobile premier league.
The call was made by various speakers during the club’s awards ceremony at Baitlotli Junior Secondary School on Saturday afternoon (July 5).
Among the first to plea for the community football team support, was the South East South Member of Parliament, Odirile Motlhale, who said the team has a mammoth task of competing in the premier league.
“It is going to be difficult for you to stay there, especially when you are not focused,” Motlhale said.
However, he said the community takes solace in the fact that the team had shown its capabilities during their campaign in the Debswana First Division-South league during the previous season.
He said the team is the pride of the Balete Community following its progress to the elite league, hence there is need for all to come together and device strategies on how to help the team’s campaign.
“Nowadays, football is a serious business, we must know how to behave ourselves to lure sponsors and to keep them,” he added.
He said the clubs also need to come up with incentives for its supporters as they are the pinnacle to its success.
Another speaker, Seabelo Tlhaselo said apart from flying the name of Ramotswa high, the team would bring business to the community during its games.
Hence, he said all Balete must rally behind the team as it would help address thorny issues such as unemployment and youth indecency.
Therefore, Tlhaselo said there is need for engaging with the Botswana Football Association on basic standards for a ground to be credited to hold premier league matches, as the main is for Letlapeng to play its home game at Ramotswa.
“When we play in Ramotswa we create business for our community,” Tlhaselo added. Balete paramount Chief, Kgosi Mosadi also encouraged all other teams in Ramotswa to support Letlapeng in their new adventure.
She said sports growth come along with many developments for the benefit of the community, hence the need to put aside their differences.
Among those who got awards were the team goalkeeper Kakanyetso ‘KK’ Dipholo who won the player’s player of the season and player of the season awards, Sadat Sinare won the top goal scorer, Bakang Mabutho won the most disciplined player while the club captain Kefitile Magama won the supporters player of the season.
