The headman of Mmaseetsele ward in Moshupa, Mr Otukile Tsalaile has called on Batswana to join hands with government through various interventions and fight poverty.

Mr Tsalaile said during donation of food stuffs and clothing to Gagosiame family by department of Industrial Affairs Wellness Committee on Friday July 4 in Moshupa that the gesture was most welcome as it helps restore dignity of the less privileged members of society.

He said poverty is the worst form of human degradation in that it strips-off one’s dignity. Department’s wellness committee chairperson, Ms Tsholofelo Moagi said the gesture, conceived early this year, was her committee’s way of showing compassion to the less privileged. 

She said her department was happy to be part of such nation building initiatives that help restore hope where it is much needed

The gesture, she said marked the beginning of a fruitful and lasting relationship between her department and Gagosiame family.


Department’s Acting Director, Ms Mpho Ntshese concurred with Ms Moagi saying the donation was their small way of demonstrating the spirit of compassion particularly to the disadvantaged.

She said the gesture shows that they too have heeded President Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s call for government departments not to only confine themselves to their official duties but to partner with government in its resolve to end abject poverty among Batswana.

Mr Albert Golekanye, Village Development Committee chairperson gave commendation to the department’s noble gesture. He said rallying behind government vision of a well sought-after nation is the only way that could bear fruits and bring about a lasting solution to problems facing Batswana including abject poverty.

He pleaded with the Gagosiame family to take care of the gifts given to them by the department and to guard against any form of misuse.

The beneficiary, 30 year-old Keagile Gagosiame thanked the department for its good gesture, saying the gifts came at an opportune time and that will relief her family of the biting winter cold. ENDS
