IAAF world’s number one, Nijel Amos still tops the 800 metres men’s diamond league despite finishing on position two after Kenyan Asbel Kiprop in a meet held at Stade de France - Paris on Saturday July 5.
Amos as usual started the race at a slow pace but as it progressed he showed his true colours, but it was Kiprop who proved that he can beat the 2012 Olympic silver medalist just at the end of the race, by clocking 1:43:34 while Amos finished second with 1:43:70.
On position three was Yeimer Lopez of Cuba with 1:43:71 followed by Ambroise Pieree Bosse of France who clocked 1:44:23.
With only few meetings left to wrap up the league, Amos still lead the log with six points followed by Kenyans Robert Biwott, Kiprop, David Rudisha both with four points respectively.
Ethopian, Mahommed Aman is on position five with two points followed by Mark English of Ireland, Taofik Makhloufi of Algeria both with two points. At the bottom of the log is Sudanese Abubaker Kaki and Cuban Yeimer Lopez with one point each respectively.
In 400 metres women’s race, Amantle Montsho finished on position four.
Montsho this time started the race well but just at the end she slowed down giving Sanya Richard Ross of United States of America, Stepenenie McPherson of Jamaica and Novlene Mills Williams of Jamaica to finish the race ahead of her.
So far Montsho has only registered three points in the league and expectations are that she will redeem herself in the Commonwealth game billed for Glasgow, where she will be representing Botswana together with Amos, Isaac Makwala, Pako Seribe and Kabelo Kgosiemang in the high jump. ENDS
