Serowe DHMT football team donates to SOS

02 Jul 2014

Serowe District Health Management Team football team has donated clothing hampers to SOS village in an endeavour to help the underprivileged young people keep warm during the battering chilly winter. The clothing hampers worth P2 250 were mainly sweaters, tracksuits as well as jerseys for both girls and boys.

It is not every day that social clubs take their time to engage in worthy causes as they are notoriously known for their alcohol drinking during their games.

However, Serowe DHMT soccer team dubbed D4T, one of the antiretroviral drugs, hosted a quarterly football event played on rotational basis where hospitals such as Letlhakane Primary Hospital, Mahalapye District Hospital and Masunga Primary hospital partook in the charitable occasion.

Though P2 250 worth hampers may be deemed inadequate, the D4T were ecstatic that they have managed to divert from their football playing tradition to making a difference in the community they are plying their trade in.

“Today we feel proud to donate to the less privileged members of our community in the form of SOS,” said nursing superintendent, Mr Mothusi Mazebedi who appealed to football players to treat the tournament as a charitable project rather than fighting hard to win.

When accepting the hampers on behalf of SOS management, Mr Nkgopolang Dikwena of SOS expressed his gratitude to the donors saying their efforts augured well with their mandate of helping the underprivileged members of the community.

Coming from a charitable organisation that cared for around 180 young persons, Mr Dikwena appealed to all those gathered to visit or even donate to their organisation in order to help in the daily running of the charitable home.

During the wellness tournament, Letlhakane Primary Hospital were crowned champions of the quarterly wellness games after defeating Serowe DHMT by 6-5 on penalties. The two had drawn 2 all. Mahalapye District Hospital came third after beating Masunga 5-4 on penalties in the losers final.

Earlier Mahalapye lost to Serowe DHMT by 2-1. Masunga had succumbed to a 5-0 thrashing of Letlhakane in the semifinals. ENDS
